Chesapeake Regional Medical Center – New ICU

Chesapeake Regional Medical Center is the only independent, community based hospital in Virginia’s Hampton Roads region. The 300-plus-bed hospital features the best heart attack survival rates of any major health system in the region, a nationally accredited Chest Pain Center, and—as of 2022—the new Richard S. Bray Critical Care Tower.

The 72,000-square-foot tower is part of a $150 million Master Facility Expansion of the hospital that also included a new cancer center, intensive care unit (ICU) with 30 ICU beds, operating room, and cardiac testing diagnosis facilities.

Unicel Architectural worked with architect PF&A Design, of Norfolk, VA, to supply nearly 400 total Vision Control® insulating glass units (IGUs) with integrated louver technology totaling 2,975 square feet for phases 1 and 2 of the expansion. This included:

  • 50-plus hollow metal windows
  • 50-plus sliding doors with six Vision Control® panels each
  • 6 sliding doors with four Vision Control® panels each

The new Critical Care Tower boasts bright, airy hallways and patient rooms with large windows and sliding doors with louvers that can be adjusted for full control of vision, light, temperature, and sound. It’s the perfect recipe for a tranquil environment that promotes patient healing and a healthy, vibrant work atmosphere for medical staff.

Vision Control® advanced louvered glazing is a patented combination of ligature-resistant louvers between hermetically sealed glass panes, and is regularly used in healthcare and other institutional applications.

Other healthcare facilities using Vision Control® include the Jefferson Cherry Hill Hospital, Hackensack Meridian’s Bayshore Medical Center and, the Cambridge Health Alliance’s Somerville Campus.

The Pavillon d’accueil du Parcours Gouin is a reception pavilion located in Basile-Routhier Park in Montréal, Canada, at the edge of the Prairies River separating the Island of Montréal from Laval. F1 Montreal Grand Prix Paddock

The Canadian Grand Prix has been held in Montreal every year (except 2020) since 1961, and since 1978 has been run at Parc Jean Drapeau’s Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve. The paddocks building, however, which houses team garages, spectator loges and terraces, media and administrative rooms, and a control tower, had required major upgrades for years. Aside from fitting only 1,800 spectators, several other missing elements meant it didn’t meet official F1 World Championship standards.
