EHS Specialist Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Production Director, the EHS Specialist is responsible for ensuring environmental, health, and safety (EHS) compliance while driving continuous improvement in EHS programs and culture. This role develops and implements EHS programs, conducts training, investigates incidents, and creates work instructions. The EHS Specialist supports operations, collaborates across departments to resolve challenges, and leads initiatives to foster a world-class safety culture.

What You Will Do:

  • Develop, implement, and annually update a comprehensive prevention program in accordance with Quebec regulations and aligned with company objectives, collaborating with local staff and corporate EHS.
  • Monitor and measure EHS performance using KPIs and metrics; proactively identify and implement corrective actions for off-track metrics.
  • Analyze EHS data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement and drive continual improvement.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure EHS compliance, promote safe behaviors, and adherence to EHS requirements.
  • Develop and deliver training programs on EHS topics for all employees in accordance with local regulations and company policies.
  • Create and maintain training records, safety programs, compliance records, incident records, and safety programs.
  • Investigate incidents, perform root cause analyses, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Conduct risk assessments and job safety analyses to mitigate EHS risks and ensure safe work practices.
  • Establish and support the workplace health and safety committee, ensuring regular meetings and effective worker participation.
  • Develop and communicate facility-specific emergency response and evacuation plans.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve EHS issues and drive improvements.
  • Coordinate workplace injury and illness case reporting and management. Maintain a register of all workplace incidents, and ensure timely investigation and reporting to CNESST and corporate EHS.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with all current Quebec OHS legislations.
  • Establish consistent EHS communication across the organization to foster a world-class safety culture.
  • Work overtime as needed to support production.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Need to Succeed:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in EHS in a manufacturing environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of EHS regulations and methodologies.
  • Experience with incident investigation, risk assessment, and corrective action implementation.
  • Strong communication and training skills.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and French Canadian.

Preferred:

  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP® / PSAC®) designation.
  • First Aid Certification recognized by CNESST.
  • Other relevant safety or process engineering certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM).
  • Experience with CNESST regulations and Quebec-specific EHS requirements.

Physical Demands:

  • Standing Duration: Ability to stand for up to 8 hours per shift.
  • Lifting Requirements: Ability to lift up to 15 kg.
  • Ability to work in environments with noise, chemicals, dust, sharp objects, moving/rotating mechanical parts, and temperature extremes.
