LONGUEUIL, CANADA, JANUARY 18, 2024 – Unicel Architectural Corp., manufacturer of Vision Control®, timber and aluminum curtain walls and skylight solutions, is proud to announce it is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.
Unicel Architectural got its start in 1964 when founder Fernand Roy opened the company’s first shop in St-Leonard, Quebec (a borough of Montreal).
It wasn’t long before the innovators at Unicel Architectural developed Vision Control® advanced louvered glazing, a daylight, privacy, temperature, vision and sound control solution ahead of its time integrated in an insulating glass unit (IGU), in the 1980s.
Vision Control® was patented a few years later and remains the company’s flagship product thanks in part to its ability to support LEED certification requirements. The hermetically sealed glass unit with ligature-resistant operator ensures total privacy and optimal hygiene, making it an effective option for increasing safety and controlling the spread of infection in healthcare facilities.
Vision Control® has since been joined by Unicel Architectural’s suite of sustainable timber curtain wall and aluminum building products.
“Vincent and I have always been strong believers in Unicel Architectural, and we’re proud to lead a company with such a rich history and strong lineup of products, including our timber curtain wall and Vision Control specialty glazing,” said Unicel Architectural Co-President Samuel Doyon-Bissonnette.
But it wasn’t until the 1990s that Unicel Architectural’s North America-wide business began to take off. That’s when the company expanded its U.S. customer base to accommodate several landmark projects including multiple FBI offices, Miami’s Cedar-Sinai Hospital, Ohio State University, and the Children’s Medical Center Dallas.
Expansion into East Asia and Scandinavia in the 2000s and Latin America and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) regions followed in the 2010s. The company today primarily works on large institutional projects in the U.S. and Canada but also performs commercial work.
“The demand for sustainable, elegant, and highly customized building and glazing products and thermally efficient technologies has only grown in the past several years, and we believe it will continue to grow,” added Vincent Couturier, who along with Samuel acquired IC2 Technologies in 2018 and completed a successful management buyout in 2020. “The designers and architects we work with value Unicel Architectural as a vendor able to work on challenging and complex projects other companies shy away from.”
The company’s current facility resides in Longueuil, Quebec and it recently announced 2 new product additions as part of the Vision Control® line of products: hurricane-certified systems and motion sensor operators .
