The future of vision & daylight control

Milestones

2010
Unicel expands its markets to the GCC countries (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates), as well as the Latin American market.

Unicel launches Vision Control® Mini – a new, thinner version of its patented louvered glazing solution that provides ground-breaking insulated glass with operable louvers for optimal vision control in interior applications. Leveraging the success of the original Vision Control®, the Mini features a 1” insulated airspace that is ideal for sliding doors and other interior door applications. Architects who focus on healthcare and institutional environments need maintenance-free vision control solutions that will ensure privacy and hygiene. Vision Control® Mini is designed to deliver on these exacting HIPAA design requirements.

2000’s
Enjoying a solid and enviable reputation, Unicel is one of the most respected manufacturers in the industry, catering for major projects around North America. The company improves Vision Control®‘s design and engages into research and development of specialty glazing. At the same time, Unicel increases its expertise in skylights, louvers and aluminum structures.

Unicel architectural and Vision Control®’s popularity grows in the 2000s, especially in the Healthcare industry. The hygienic qualities of the sealed Vision Control® units are praised by hospital staff and an increase in demand for the product arises.

The USA market embraces Unicel’s louver and shading systems. Unicel has the pleasure to work on innovative projects with world acclaimed architectural firms. Unicel Architectural contributes to LEED projects such as the Grand Rapids Art Museum in Michigan.

Unicel breaks from the herd, offering high-scale residential glass enclosures. It adds to its product lines Victorian conservatories, integrating unique designs and architectural details such as solid aluminum finials, crests, dentils, arches and stained glass.

80’s
Unicel expands from a service company to a manufacturer, also tackling the new and very popular residential sunroom market. During this decade, Unicel becomes Québec’s sole sunroom manufacturer to offer various custom-made aluminum structures (skylights, curtain walls, and window systems) for the residential, commercial, institutional and industrial markets. The products are sold through glazing contractors in Québec, Ontario and the Maritimes.

Vision Control® receives the First Prize for Innovation at the first Montreal edition of France’s Batimat trade show in 1981. Encouraged by the success of the unique hermetically sealed glass unit incorporating extruded pivoting louvers, the company embarked on a continuous effort to perfect and improve it.
